The Ridley Scott directed movie that propelled Russell Crowe to stardom, and an Oscar for best actor, in the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius begins with an epic battle between the Romans and the Germanic tribes.
It was actually shot near Farnham in Surrey, England. This scene features a huge volley of burning arrows and this display is of two of the actual arrows used in the making of the movie, acquired by a friend of mine who worked as a carpenter on the set and then framed by my framing specialist. These are real “props” from the set and are a piece of movie history.
